Lincoln Center Summer for the City presents Brazil Week: MU.ITA (The Itamar Assumpção Museum)

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to present a selection of works from the permanent collection of the Instituto Museu Itamar Assumpção (MU.ITA) as part of Summer for the City’s Brazil Week. Founded in 2020, MU.ITA is a private, non-profit museum dedicated to the life and work of artist Itamar Assumpção, a prominent voice in Brazil’s cultural movement ‘Vanguarda Paulistana’. With a collection of more than 4,000 works—including paintings, music, photographs, texts, videos, and costumes from Assumpção’s personal archives—MU.ITA is the first virtual museum of a black Brazilian artist and the first to be translated into Yoruba, the native language of Niger-Congo, with the aim of bringing Itamar’s life and work closer to his African ancestry. This summer, from July 16–30, the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts will host Sixth Sense, a two-venue exhibition platform featuring selected literary, musical, and visual productions by Itamar Assumpção. In conjunction with Sixth Sense, a video installation by multidisciplinary artist biarritzzz will be presented in the David Rubenstein Atrium from July 16–20.
