
Willie Mae Rock Camp Presents Future Sounds Mixtape! at National Sawdust

A multimedia performance celebrating 20 years of New York City’s Willie Mae Rock Camp, named for Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, a music pioneer who transgressed the gender and racial barriers of her time. Audiences of all ages are invited to envision worlds beyond the limits of their present through an interactive, intergenerational experience, featuring original 20-channel sound experiments by students alongside live performances.
Students and alumni of Willie Mae Rock Camp, the ground-breaking music and STEM organization for New York City’s girls and gender-expansive youth. Additional performances by the Black Sound Salon, an adult tech/experimental sound collective that mentors Willie Mae youth ensembles.
